At the Law Office of Michael P. Sullivan, with two offices located in Elizabethtown and Louisville, I am a compassionate Kentucky Social Security Disability lawyer who understands the impact a long-term physical or mental impairments may have on your ability to work. The Social Security Disability program was designed to help provide financial and medical benefits to people who are unable to maintain competitive employment due to a physical or medical impairment(s) that can be expected to last for at least 12 months. However, collecting on those benefits is not easy and claims are often denied.

Kentucky Social Security Disability Attorney

If you need the legal representation of a Social Security Disability lawyer, do not hesitate to contact me. Time is important when trying to collect on Social Security benefits. The sooner you contact me, the sooner I can help get you the benefits you deserve.

Effective at pursuing claims through the Social Security Administration

What sets me apart as a Social Security Disability attorney is the refined team approach my law office takes to handling each claim. Along with my highly trained staff, we have extensive knowledge in this area of the law. We have successfully represented thousands of clients, and are effective at using the internet to pursue claims through the Social Security Administration.

Together with my medical development paralegals, we work to prove the medical conditions that are the underlying causes of disabilities. A physical disability may be the result of a catastrophic personal injury or a long term progressive medical condition.    These can include back injuries, cardiac problems, rheumatologic and metatastic diseases, neurological diseases, vision impairments, orthopedic impairments, vascular disorders, etc. Disabilities are not just physical, however, and can often include a mental and emotional impairment, such as schizophrenia, bipolar and anxiety disorders, affective disorders, depression, dysthymia, etc. Many of my clients have both physical and emotional impairments, and each will play a role in a successful claim.   Also, many of my clients have not only SSA disability claims, but are also trying to collect on ERISA and long term disability benefit policies, and I can work on both claims if the client desires

Social Security Disability

If you or a family member, suffer from an injury or disease that prevents you from working, or is expected to prevent you from working for one year or longer, then you may be entitled to receive Social Security Disability benefits.

The Social Security Administration is the federal government agency that handles retirement and disability benefits. Under the Social Security Act "disability" means an "inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to result in death or has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months." Social Security disability benefits may include:

  • Disability Insurance Benefits - paid to individuals who have worked in recent years (five out of the last 10 years in most cases) who are now disabled.

  • Disabled Widow's and Widower's Benefits - paid to individuals who are at least 50 and become disabled within a certain amount of time after the death of their husband or wife.

  • Disabled Adult Child Benefits - paid to the children of persons who are deceased or who are drawing Social Security disability or retirement benefits. The child must have become disabled before age 22.

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits - paid to individuals who are poor and who are disabled. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is designed to help aged, blind, and disabled people, who have little or no income, and it provides cash to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter.
